FO calls Kartarpur corridor opening ‘dream coming true for Sikhs’

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal on Wednesday termed the opening of Kartarpur corridor as a ‘huge success for Pakistan’ and a dream coming true for the Sikh community.

Speaking to reporters at the Islamabad airport, the FO spokesman said, “Today is a historic day and this is an important step by Prime Minister Imran Khan for the inclusion and rights of minorities.”

According to details, the official was departing for Lahore to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Karturpur corridor.

“Journalists and the diplomatic community are with us and there is a great interest regarding the matter,” he noted.

Dr Faisal also tweeted, “The journey begins. We move towards the peace which has remained elusive.”

Sharing pictures with reporters at the airport, he further wrote, “A huge success for #Pakistan. A dream coming true for the Sikhs.”

Preparations for groundbreaking ceremony of Kartarpur Border Corridor have been finalized and Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone of the corridor today (Wednesday).

A high-level delegation and a group of Indian journalists will also take part in the ceremony. Former Indian cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has already arrived in Pakistan.

Contended over the border decision, Sidhu said the project that couldn’t be materialzed in 73 years finally being executed in just three months.

The construction work of the corridor will begin after the ground breaking ceremony today.

The formal opening of the work of the Kartarpur Corridor in India had begun on Nov 26 after a formal ceremony.
