SRINAGAR, INDIA-OCCUPIED KASHMIR: Asiya Andrabi, the woman leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), was arrested by Indian police from the Basant Bagh area of the city.

She has evaded arrest ever since the current unrest began in the restive valley from 9th July, after Indian forces killed popular young commander Burhan Wani.

According to media reports, clashes have erupted in the several places including Saloora area of Gandarbal in Central Kashmir after her arrest. There are unconfirmed reports that she might be shifted to New Delhi.

Andrabi was arrested along with her close associate Fehmeeda Sofi. She was arrested last year for hoisting the Pakistani flag on 14th August.

She is the chief of Dukhtaran-e-Millat which is fighting for freedom and separation of Kashmir from India. Her husband, Qasim Faktoo, is currently serving a life-term in Srinagar. Her supporters have called her the Iron Lady of Kashmir.
