Kashmiris all around world observing self-determination day today

MUZAFFARABAD/SRINAGAR: People of Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) are observing the Right to Self-Determination day on Friday (today) to remind the international community of the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions on Kashmir adopted on this day (Jan 5) in 1949, acknowledging the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination.

Kashmiris all around the world observe this day to draw the world attention towards the territorial dispute besides sensitizing the global community about early resolution of the lingering conflict.

People on both sides of the LoC hold seminars, public rallies and processions to highlight the importance of the day.

The events are held to reiterate the long cherished demand of making a decision of choice under the spirit of UN resolutions on the disputed territory, besides renewal of the pledge to continue their ongoing indigenous struggle with full vigor till achievement of their fundamental right.

A rally of people from all walks of life will be taken out from the District Court premises in Mirpur city of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The procession will later converge into the special ceremony at central Shaheed Chowk in the city under the auspices of the District National Events Organizing Committee.

Speakers representing all spheres of life including political, social, private and public sector employees, lawyers, journalists, teachers, students and business community will highlight the importance of the day to remind UNO for early implementation of its resolutions to pave the way for peaceful settlement of the much-delayed Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
