KCCI assures govt full support in improving tax collection system

KARACHI: President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Junaid Esmail Makda has assured full support and cooperation to the government in improving the tax collection system.

Makda also welcomed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks about reforming Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and emphasized that FBR be made a taxpayers’ friendly tax collecting agency.

“Trade and industrial community highly appreciates PM’s resolve to reform the FBR and also welcomes his warning to create a new tax collection authority if FBR fails to play its due role aimed at high economic growth in the country,” he said in a issued on Friday.

He said that whether it was the present or new FBR, there was a dire need to create trust among the business community by completely eradicating corruption in FBR and its alleged attitude towards taxpayers.

KCCI President, on behalf of the chamber’s members said the traders body would extend complete cooperation to the government in improving the tax collection system.

Junaid Esmail Makda was of the opinion that the taxation laws also revision in consultation with all the stakeholders. Besides, he continued, taxation procedures be simplified so that maximum number of individuals could be encouraged to pay their taxes. FBR must be directed to strictly take action against tax evaders instead of overburdening and further squeezing the existing taxpayers, he maintained.
