ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Wednesday took aim at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for, what she claimed, exploiting innocent children to defend corrupt mafia.

In a tweet, she said the JUI-F chief, being a religious scholar, ought to foster peace and harmony in lieu of harboring malice against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Ms Awan said, “Making innocent children of the nation a political force to defend corrupt mafia is neither Islam nor democracy.”

She said the JUI-F chief bears the prime minister malice and requested him to keep Islam in mind not Islamabad.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has reportedly been playing a mediatory role between former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asfi Ali Zardari in an attempt to unite the opposition against the government.

Lately, he had met both the leaders and convened a multiparty conference of opposition parties.
