KARACHI: Police arrested a key suspect of Sehwan shrine attack  from Ittehad Town of Karachi, ARY News reported on Friday.

Sindh police achieved a major breakthrough in Sehwan blast investigation when a main accused behind the incident was arrested in Karachi.

The arrested man has been identified as Tahir who said to be affiliated with Bashir Brohi group of a banned militant outfit. The accused was arrested from a suburban vicinity – Ittehad Town – of the metropolis.

Separately, police arrested an alleged target killer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) faction from Awami Colony area of Karachi and recovered weapon from his possession.

According to police, a raid was carried out on an intelligence tip-off after receiving information about presence of the suspect. The arrested suspect has been identified as Shakeel alias Bhatta Khor.

In a confessional statement, the alleged target killer revealed that the party had recruited him as teacher in government sector to get financial support for his family back in 2007.

He confessed of targeting political activists of opponent parties.

In another raid, Sindh Rangers recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a shop in Gulistan-e-Johar area.

According to the paramilitary force, the raid was carried out on indication of arrested members of MQM-L faction. The weapons include three SMGs, a repeater and around 2,600 live bullets.

Three killed in Kasur police encounter

Three suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter with police in Raja Jhang area of Kasur in Punjab.

According to Punjab police, five armed robbers confronted police personnel at a check post near Raja Jang area of Kasur city. The armed suspects opened fire at the personnel in a bid to avoid arrest. Three burglars were killed in retaliatory firing of police, while two others managed to flee from the spot.

The slain dacoits were identified as Iftikhar, Jabbar alias Jabbari and Farooq. A motorcycle and weapons were also seized.

Furthermore, the police arrested 27 suspects in raids at different areas of Hafizabad district in a crackdown against miscreants. Illegal arms and narcotics were also seized from their possession.
