KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Khurram Sher Zaman on Monday demanded that Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) be handed over to the Pakistan Army and Rangers to run its affairs.

In a statement, the MPA predicted that water scarcity will lead to anarchy in the port city.

He said the cost of the K-IV water project is increasing every day. Slamming the PPP-led provincial government, he asked the local government minister to quit upon his failure to ensure provision of water to the people of the city.

The lawmaker alleged the local government department is one of the most corrupt departments of the province.

He demanded of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice of alleged financial irregularities of billions of rupees in the department.

Earlier in the day, Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said the federal government is ready to help the provincial government to overcome water crisis in the province.

Talking to reporters after meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the federal minister said: “Sindh is our province and we [PTI government] want to help the province.”

He said consensus has been reached on the matter of telemeters and other issues, including timely completion of the K-IV project.

Replying to a question, the minister said the PTI government at the centre cannot think of meddling in the domain of any the federating unit of the country.
