KARACHI: Police on Wednesday registered a case against a labourer who took his former colleagues at a factory hostage over unpaid dues, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, police registered a First Information Report against Saleem Shahzad, a labourer who on Tuesday entered a factory in Gulshan-e-Maymar area and took at least three former colleagues hostage to demand his dues.

The labourer has been booked on charges of terrorism, attempt to murder and attacking police force.

Saleem Shahzad was a former employee of the factory and claimed that he was unjustly fired from his job and was not even paid three months salary by factory owners.

“I will blow myself and my colleagues up if I don’t get paid,” Saleem Shahzad had said in a video message during the hours long hostage drama.

He had a gun in his hand and claimed to have explosive material in his bag.

A police team led by SSP Malir cordoned off the factory and assured him that if he surrenders his demands will be fulfilled.

After at least eight hours of negotiation, the man surrendered himself before the police and was taken into custody. All three staff members were rescued.

SSP Malir Munir Shaikh told media that Shahzad was fired by the factory owners at least six months ago and was not paid his three months’ dues.

He added that the suspect handed over his gun while his bag didn’t have explosive material but just some used clothes.
