The Pokerface singer tweeted the news to her 5.4 million followers on Twitter. Oscar producers Craig Zedon and Neil Meron also announced the news on Twitter with their statements. “Lady Gaga is a once in a lifetime artist who’s musical evolution keeps growing. We are proud to have her perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” Zadan and Meron said in a statement.

The Oscar producer’s statement that the pop singer will be involved in a ‘special performance’ has given rise to speculation as to what does Gaga have in store for millions of Oscar viewers. Lady Gaga has always been the center of attention as well as ridicule for her bizarre and often gross appearances at awards show. In the MTV Awards 2009, the singer dressed up in a freakishly-weird costume that even astonished Eminem, who presented the award to her onstage.
She was also the object of controversy when in the Monster Ball 2011, she enacted a blood spurting performance in England. Gaga had worn a revealing leather corset and a stage performer, dressed in black, ‘attacked’ her throat and gnawed at it. The result was a stage act in which she fell down onto the floor and ‘blood’ spurted out of her throat. The incident was criticized heavily by family groups and fans yet added to Lady Gaga’s freakish image. In yet another astonishingly odd appearance, in the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the pop singer accepted her award for Best Video for her song Bad Romance, in a dress made from raw beef!
Lady Gaga might have offended many in the past due to her antics yet the fact remains that she is one of the most riveting music artists in the world today. Her debut Oscar performance is definitely being looked forward to as fans expect another surprise fashion statement from her.
