Lahore Literary Festival to take place in New York

NEW YORK: Promising to be a premier cultural event, the Lahore Literary Festival returns to New York this Saturday with a series of discussions exploring dimensions of Pakistani arts and literature.

This year’s event will mark the third edition of Lahore Literary Festival at Asia Society, New York, bringing together writers, diplomats, historians, and analysts to some of the key facets of national life in the South Asian country.

The festival will present audiences with a more nuanced view of Pakistan, with discussions on fiction and nonfiction writing, music, arts, popular culture, and politics, organizers said.

The day-long event will open with an address of welcome by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi, and the festival’s founder Razi Ahmed.

Ayesha Jalal, a professor of History at Tufts University, with interests in South Asia, the Muslim World; Director of South Asian and Indian Ocean Studies, will deliver a keynote address on ‘Liberalism and the Muslim Question.’

Other speakers include architect Nayyar Ali Dada, artist Waqas Khan, short story writer Muhammad Umar Memon, journalist Kathy Gannon and Kiran Desai, the author of The Inheritance of Loss which won the 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
