HARNAI: Polling is under way for the Local Bodies (LB) Elections today throughout the district, ARY News reports.
The elections were supposed to be held on 10th December 2013 but were delayed as no candidate had filed their nomination papers for the seats in the district.
105 vacant seats are being contested in the election. The voting had started on 8am and will continue till 5pm without any delay. Long queues are being witnessed as people are exercising their right to vote for their desired candidate. Polls are being contested for the Municipal Committees, District Councils and Union Councils.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) are amongst the parties contesting the polls today.
Strict security measures have been taken to curb any unforeseen event during the voting. Contingents of Levis Force and Frontier Constabulary are performing duties in the polling stations. 18 polling station have been declared extremely sensitive and 90 have been declared sensitive whereas 14 stations have been announced as normal.
