ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that the schedule for the Local Body (LB) elections can only be amended after the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan and polling dates will also be extended in Sindh and Punjab – ARY News reports.
It was stated that the provinces have presented their stance in the SC, while the opinion of the Ecp is also before the apex court. Whatever decision will be made by the court, the ECP will comply with.
The ECP further stated that the Defence Ministry has asked for a week's time regarding the LB elections in cantonments boards countrywide, however no response has been given after that.
It was mentioned that the draft pertaining to rules and regulations about LB polls in cantonments is under consideration by the Standing Committee and if the ordinance is issued then the elections can be held early.
