LEAs arrest two teachers outside KPC over alleged MQM-London links

KARACHI: Moments before a press conference for release of Dr. Hassan Zafar Arif by Teachers’ Society, two of its members arrested by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Saturday outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) allegedly for being in contact with the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement London (MQM-L), ARY News reported.

Dr. Riaz, head of teachers’ society, and another member Mehr Afroz Murad were detained by LEAs allegedly for being in contact with MQM-London leadership.

Both were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Members of teachers’ society in a press conference after arrest of their two associates confirmed their whereabouts remained unknown after 2 pm today.

Representing teachers’ society, Noreen Haider apprised media that she has no idea whether Dr. Riaz and Mehr Afroz were in contact with MQM-L leadership, however, Dr. Hassan Zafar Arif has remained their teacher and the society has concerns on his arrest.

“We came to demand release of Professor Dr. Hassan Zaffar Arif but now, after arrest of associates, we are demanding release of three people”, she added.

In a similar fashion, Rangers had arrested Prof. Dr. Hassan Zafar Arif on October 22 outside KPC where he was due to address a press conference.
