LEAs round up 79 suspects in overnight Karachi raids
KARACHI: Rangers and Police, in a joint raid, have rounded up as many as 79 suspects during overnight raids in different areas of the metropolis on Wednesday, ARY News reported.
Acting on an intelligence tip-off about presence of miscreants in Musa Colony of the city, Rangers and Police conducted a joint raid by cordoning off the exit and entry routes of the area. During door-to-door search 22 suspected criminals arrested and shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.
In another joint operation in Ittehad Town, 51 suspects were taken into custody.
Separately, six other suspects were detained during a search operation in Gulbahar area. The raid was carried out on intelligence tip off about presence of suspected criminals, police sources said.
However, the law enforcement agencies divulged no details pertaining to the identification of the suspects. It is pertinent to be mention here that a rise in attacks on police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies has been witnessed during the last one month.
On Monday, a traffic police personnel martyred while another injured when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on them at Abul Hassan Isphahani road of the metropolis.
The incident was second of its nature within a week. In an earlier attack on July 21 (Friday), three policemen were martyred when armed assailants targeted their vehicle in Korangi area of Karachi.
The unidentified armed assailants on motorcycles opened fire on a vehicle of Awami Colony Police Station in Korangi, leaving two policemen and a 10-year old kid dead on the spot. Another cop was seriously injured in the gun attack who succumbed to his wounds in the hospital during medical treatment.
Earlier on June 23, four policemen were martyred in a gun attack in Karachi’s SITE area when they were breaking fast near Siemens Chowrangi.
