Lahore police lines blast leaves five people dead

03-25pm: Inspector General Police of Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera has said that the suicide bomber was waiting for a big target outside the police lines. Due to strict security he failed to enter in police lines and detonated his explosives, the police chief further said.

02-30pm: In Lahore police lines blast eight kilograms of explosives were used, CCPO Lahore said. A severed head has also been found from the spot, he further said.

02-00pm: Lahore Police chief has said that according to initial investigations it was likely to be a suicide blast. The attacker wanted to enter in the police lines but detonated his explosives after failing to enter in the premises.

The explosives are said to be planted in a car near the gate of the police lines in Qila Gujjar Singh police jurisdiction, reports said. CCPO Lahore stated that it was a suicide explosion according to initial investigations.

The rescue and relief teams rushed to the area after the blast that shattered the windowpanes of the nearby buildings.

The hospital sources initially said that three bodies and over dozen of injured were brought to the hospital. Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

Police sources have confirmed five deaths in the bomb blast.

Earlier, huge plume of smoke was visible in the air in the heavily populated area which was quickly cordoned off by the security personnel.

According to eyewitness accounts several vehicles parked near the site of the blast caught fire and window panes in nearby buildings were also shattered.

Security forces have cordoned off the area whereas the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has been called to the scene.
