LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday sought report about steps taken to restore wall of the Punjab Governor House, ARY News reported.

Justice Mamoon Rasheed Sheikh conducted hearing of the case.

The court referred to the lawyer to urge governor to get the work done as he was residing in the Governor House.

The LHC also asked lawyers, including the petitioner Advocate Azhar Siddique, to turn up in the next hearing on April 25.

The petitioner stated that building of the Governor House was a cultural heritage, hence its wall couldn’t be demolished.

He appealed the court to immediately order restoration of the demolished wall.

On Dec 1, 2018, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the authorities to pull down the boundary walls of the Punjab Governor House, in pursuance of the PTI government’s promise to allow public access to state buildings.

Later on Dec 3, the Lahore High Court issued a stay order over a petition seeking halt to demolition of the walls of Governor House, Punjab, with immediate effect.

The order was issued by the LHC judge Justice Mamoon Rashid.

“According to the orders of the Supreme Court such steps needs approval from the cabinet,” Justice Rashid said in his judgement.

The petitioner earlier had stated in his plea that, the walls of the building couldn’t be razed as the structure was historical in nature, “and it’s illegal to demolish the heritage building.’
