World T20: Fletcher powers West Indies to win over Sri Lanka

West Indies won the toss and opted to field first in the game.

Angelo Mathews and Thisara Parera’s 44-run stand took the team to 122/9 in their 20 overs after the top order failed to provide a solid foundation in the game.

Parera was the top scorer for the team as he made 40 runs from 29 balls with four boundaries and a six to his name while Angelo Mathews scored 20 runs from 32 deliveries.

Samuel Badree was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies as he took three wickets while conceding just 12 runs in his four overs.

Dwayne Bravo grabbed two wickets while Andre Russell and Carlos Braithwaite dismissed a Sri Lankan batsman each.

West Indies, chasing 123 runs to win, reached the target with more than an over to spare and seven wickets in hand.

Andre Fletcher was the stand out performer for the Caribbean side with his knock of 84 runs off 64 deliveries with the help of six boundaries and five maximums.

Andre Russell scored 20 runs while Johnson Charles contributed 10 runs with the bat.

Milinda Siriwardana grabbed two wickets while Jeffrey Vandersay.

Both teams started their World T20 campaign with a victory. West Indies defeated England by six wickets while Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by six wickets as well.
