LNG is the only solution to energy crisis: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Monday that LNG is the only solution to overcome energy crisis, ARY News reported.

A meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources held at Parliament House on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Senator Muhammad Yousaf. Export of LNG, its economic effects and Pak-Iran gas pipeline was briefly reviewed during the meeting.

Speaking in the meeting Shahid Khaqan Abbasi the government is working on several fronts to meet energy needs and the LNG export is the necessary to overcome the crisis.

He said all the arrangements have been done to export LNG from Qatar but the price is yet to be decided and the negotiations are being held with Qatar government in this regard.

The Minister said that the Qatar government has agreed to provide 400 million cubic feet gas per day (mmcfd) LNG to Pakistan by November 2014.

Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources told the committee that collection of fund seemed difficult for the Pak-Iran gas pipeline due to the global restriction over the project.
