London mayor Sadiq Khan visits Quaid’s mausoleum

KARACHI: Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, on Friday visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah here and offered Fateha.

Sadiq Khan, who arrived in Pakistan on a goodwill visit on Wednesday via Wagah border after visiting neighboring India, laid floral wreath on the grave of the founder of the nation and wrote his comments in the visitor’s diary.

The London mayor is on a three-day visit to Pakistan as part of the ‘London is Open’ promotional tour.

He landed at Karachi airport on Thursday night where he was received by Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar. He will attend receptions hosted by Sindh Governor Zubair Ahmed and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah during his stay in the port city.

A day earlier, Sadiq Khan met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at the PM House in Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Abbasi said every Pakistani is proud of his election as Mayor of London and prays for his success.

He said Pakistan gives great importance to its close and cooperative relations with the United Kingdom especially in trade and investment.

He briefed the Mayor on the excellent opportunities for trade and investment in Pakistan. Successful counter-terrorism efforts have made Pakistan an opportune destination for British businesses, he said.

Sadiq Khan said that he was impressed by the remarkable progress achieved by the government in different areas particularly in infrastructure, technology and energy.

He assured the prime minister that he would work towards fostering closer links between London and Pakistan.
