Malinga put India down in the warm-up match of World T20

MIRPUR: Sri Lanka defeated India by five runs in their first ICC World Twenty20 warm-up game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday, ARY News reported.

India had won the toss and put Sri Lanka in to bat. 

Sri Lanka lost early wicket at score of 25 runs but some good batting from middle order allowed them to make a competitive 153 for six in 20 overs.

Mahela Jayawardene was the top scorer with 30 while skipper Dinesh Chandimal made 21. Nuwan Kulasekara made a quick-fire unbeaten 14-ball 21 while Thisara Perera remained not out on 18 from 11 balls.

Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 3 for 22 in his four overs spell.

Chasing a target of 154, Indian top order fumbled losing the openers Shikhar Dhawan (2) and Rohit Sharma (4) inside five overs for just 19 runs. 

Suresh Raina scored 41 off 31 balls and Yuvraj Singh played a impressive knock of 33 providing India stand of 35 runs.

Virat Kohli (17) and Ravindra Jadeja (12) got good starts but failed to convert them into match-winning scores.

India came close to kissing distance of a win, mainly due Ravichandran Ashwin’s 12-ball 19 but were bowled out for 148 runs in 20 overs.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn’t come out to bat due to an injury.

Lasith Malinga was man who made Sri Lanka win. He took four for 30.
