Man who stripped minor girl in public arrested in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested the main suspect accused of stripping a minor girl and parading her in the Hashtnagri area of Peshawar.

SSP City Farooq Kokab said that the accused had left the city after the incident and lived in Rawalpindi, Hassan Abdal, Wah Cant and Mardan.

He said that police were following the accused and had conducted raids to arrest. He was finally apprehended from Chamkani area of Peshawar and had supposedly returned to the city.

The incident took place on May 30 in the Kachi Mohalla neighbour with the remits of the Hastnagri police station. Shakila, the mother of the minor girl aged 14, has approached the police station to file a complaint against Mazhar Hussain, who she alleged was responsible for the incident.

The incident supposedly arose from a petty dispute between children. The girl’s mother claimed that Mazhar Hussain assaulted and abused her daughter, and then stripped her completely and paraded her in the neighbourhood.

Police said that the incident happened as a revenge to settle a dispute between children. SHO Wajid Khan on Saturday had said the two family members of the prime suspect has been arrested.

He said the victim and suspect were related and there was a family dispute. The victim’s mother had come to file a report, during which the minor girl who had left her uncle’s house was stopped by Mazhar and stripped.

The suspect had fled from the scene of the incident when people of the area came to the girl’s rescue.

Police had conducted several raids in Hasan Abdal, Nowshera and other cities to locate the suspect. The accused was successfully apprehended after police received a tip-off about his whereabouts.
