Mardan university closed indefinitely after clash between students claims one life

MARDAN: Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan has been closed for an indefinite period after a clash between students claimed one life and left seven others injured including a Deputy Superintendent of Town Police on Thursday, ARY News reported.

Police have arrested about a dozen students from the university following the fight.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Mardan Police Alim Shinwari said around 10 to 15 students were taken into custody for suspicion of involvement in the fight which killed the student, Mashal.

“A group of students assaulted him and he appears to have succumbed to a gunshot wound,” he said.

A group of university students beat Abdullah in his hostel room in the university, an eyewitness said. He said the police reached the site and rescued Abdullah. After that, the mob went towards Mashal, Abdullah’s friend, who was also present in his hostel room. Mashal was tortured and shot by. He succumbed to his injuries.
