ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz says she is being dragged to the courts and embroiled in cases only for being the daughter of Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking to media at the Punjab House and reading out the statement she submitted in the court, Maryam said: “I have been falsely accused on account of my commitment to the political cause of true democracy, rule of law and Constitution and for siding with my father, who has to his credit, excellent performance in terms of public welfare and well being of the nation at the expense of illegal incarceration and exile for a number of years on account of political victimization,” she said.

She said she had appeared before the court more than 70 times and yet their ordeal had not ended. “I know why I am being kept away from my mother who is suffering from the fatal disease of cancer and I also know that in Pakistan’s 70 years history, no woman has appeared before the court so many times”.

She said that she did not represent weakness, but rather the strength of Nawaz Sharif, and vowed to never let her father’s head bow in defeat.

She said, “I am not and have never been the beneficial owner of Nescoll, Nielsen companies or the Avenfield properties, nor have I derived any financial benefit from either company or the said property in any way, whatsoever.”

Maryam said Nawaz Sharif launched several development projects in Pakistan and worked effortlessly for progress of the country. It’s the same Nawaz Sharif who restored peace in Karachi, revived ailing economy and made Fata merger a reality.

She pointed out that behind the slew of references filed against her family was the vindictive agenda to teach her father and her family a lesson.

She recalled that the former PM Sharif got census conducted in the country after 19 years.

The PML-N leader said she would continue to be the strength of her father rather than his weakness.

Maryam yesterday recorded her testimony in the court under Section 342 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC).
