KARACHI: A large swathe of the metropolis plunged into darkness for the second time in the holy month of Ramazan as a major technical fault occurred in the high tension transmission line of K-Electric, ARY News reported.

A massive breakdown hit a large part of the city when the power utility’s power distribution system developed a fault owing to humidity in the air, said the K-Electric’s spokesperson.

The neighborhoods that were affected by power blackout included  Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, Saudabad, Bin Qasim Town, Khokhrapar, Shah Faisal Colony, Liaqatabad, Nazimabad, Defense, Metroville, Mauripur.

A large number of citizens had to eat their Sehri without electricity because of the massive power outage. Perturbed by prolonged and unannounced load-shedding amid suffocating summer the residents of Liaqatabad took to streets to protest against K-Electric, whereas agitating protesters stormed the power utility’s office in Nazimabad’s Gole market. Police, however, arrived at the scent to prevent any untoward incident.

This is the eighth major power shutdown in ongoing month and second large in the ninth month of Islamic calendar as the metropolis had to experience similar power breakdown for hours on the first day of Ramazan.
