CALIFORNIA: After an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint from billions of users, Microsoft has issued a statement announcing that 32-year-old app is not being scrapped.

Fans were devastated after learning that Paint, the image-editing program which helped a generation with their computer scribblings, was was being moved to Microsoft’s deprecated features list.

Paint is alive

Today, however, Microsoft has released a statement saying the reaction had made the company realise that “after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans”.

“MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.”

The firm said it had “been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app” and that they wanted “to set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news: MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free”.

As the company continues to develop its new operating system, Windows 10, and streamline the applications and programs within it, it is only natural for older lines of code to be pruned from the herd.

The first part of this process is when a feature is “deprecated”, which means the company stops trying to develop and maintain the code behind the program.

A graphics program will continue to receive updates on Windows 10, of course – the new generation Paint 3D, which is, without question, a far better image-editing app.
