KARACH/LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has strongly criticised attempts by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to oppose vote recount in constituencies across the country.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to withhold the notification of Imran Khan’s victory from Lahore’s NA-131 constituency against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Rafique had approached the court pleading for a recount in the all constituencies. He strongly lashed out the PTI for opposing the vote recount saying the elections were fake and rejected by all parties.

He said that Imran Khan had agreed to open all constituencies to avoid any controversy, but his counsel Babar Awan was opposing the vote recount during court hearing which exposes their hypocrisy.

The views were shared by another PML-N leader and former finance minister Miftah Ismail on Saturday while appearing on ARY News show hosted by Maria Memon.

Miftah Ismail was asked for the failure to enact electoral reforms during their previous tenure and now similar allegations are being raised by them as the PTI and other political parties did after the 2013 general elections.

However, he strongly denied the impression and said that reforms were brought forward during the parliamentary committee but the allegations were not substantiated by any evidence. He asked why Imran Khan was opposing the vote recount in Lahore against Rafique.

Miftah, who lost the elections from Karachi, also denied that an incompetent ECP and Nadra was being left behind by them, saying their heads were appointed but it was wrong to imply they were under their control.

He also called for a judicial or parliamentary commission to be constituted to probe the collapse of the Result Transmission System (RTS), and also look into allegations that polling agents were forced out of the polling stations.
