Education minister underlines need of steps for welfare of disable children

ISLAMABAD: Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Monday underlined the need of practical steps for the welfare of disable children.

This he stated while addressing a ceremony, held to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Islamabad today.

Shafqat Mehmood said special attention is being paid to children with disabilities and they will be fully facilitated at their educational institutions.

He hoped the challenges being faced by the country in the field of education, will be see-off with help of countrymen.

Earlier today, the premier had reiterated his government’s resolve for uplifting lives of the persons with disabilities.

In his tweet message on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the PM said, “I want to reiterate our government’s commitment to transforming the lives of those with disabilities by offering them equal opportunities in education and employment.”

“Our bill to empower and enable them to surmount all barriers is ready,” he added.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed today in Pakistan and worldwide.

This year’s theme,“Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”, focuses on empowering persons with disabilities for an inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as part of the 2030 Agenda.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development.
