Monsoon rains batter several parts of country, five die in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: As per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting, monsoon rains continue in various parts of the country turning the weather pleasant in Karachi while authorities warning of flash floods in Balochistan, ARY News reported.

Continuing intermittently since Saturday evening, light rain has turned the weather pleasant in Karachi. However, as result of sporadically rainfall, electricity was cut off in several parts of the metropolis.

According to K-Electric, the city’s chief power distributor, 100 power feeders tripped due to rainfall in the city while efforts were being made to bring them back online and restore the electricity supply to affected areas.

Meanwhile, a heavy downpour was reported on Sunday morning in Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Nawabshah and Hub while showers are forecast in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan.

RAIN INCIDENTS CLAIM FIVE LIVES IN BALOCHISTAN

Five people of a family feared dead after their vehicle was swept away by flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in Khuzdar district of Balochistan.

Locals with help of authorities retrieved two bodies of flash flood victims while search for other three was underway.

Moreover, traffic was suspended on RCD Highway, linking Karachi and Quetta, as a bridge partially affected due to rains, leaving commuters stranded at both sides.

NEXT 24 HOURS

Weather department forecasted rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy downpour) with gusty winds at a number of places in lower Sindh including Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi.

Meanwhile, rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Balochistan including Zhob, Kalat, Sibbi, Naseerabad and Makran divisions.
