KARACHI: In an expected electoral grouping, Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Awami National Party have reportedly agreed to put aside their differences and form an alliance in the upcoming general elections.
According to reports, the reconciliation between the two rival parties reached through backdoor negotiations among the party seniors.
ANP Spokesperson Abdul Malik Achakzai is quoted as saying that there have been negotiations between MQM-P and ANP for the past few months. “We have principally agreed to make an alliance with MQM in Karachi. Leaders of both the parties will soon make announcements in this regard,” he said.
The ANP will making an alliance with MQM-Bahadurabad group being run under the party leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The ANP spokesperson said that they were trying to set a new precedent in the history of Karachi where “ANP and MQM will support each other”.
Achakzai said MQM had approached ANP for seat adjustment in the last local government elections.
“They were willing to give chairmanship of district municipal corporation west, but we delayed it. Now we are going to join hands with the party,” he added.
Shahi Syed of ANP, in an interview with a daily, said MQM is a reality in Karachi and there are no permanent foes and friends in the politics.
