KARACHI: Rangers took Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London leader Amjadullah Khan into custody from outside Karachi Press Club; hours after other party leaders were arrested from the same place preventing a press conference by Altaf Hussain-led political party, ARY News reported.

Amjadullah Khan was inside the press club premises since 4PM when fellow party leaders Dr Hasan Zafar Arif and Kunwar Khalid Younus were arrested from outside the place. Rangers personnel surrounded the club and waited for him to come outside for four hours.

The MQM London leader stayed for about four hours inside KPC.

According to ARY News reporter Arbab Chandio,  Rangers, in a message to KPC administration, said that a suspect cannot be given protection under the KPC premises and if Amjadullah was not sent outside, the law enforcement agency will enter the place to arrest Amjadullah.

Chandio claimed that Amjadullah was not ready to go outside the club.

Who is Amjadullah?

Amjadullah Khan, whose foray into Karachi’s politics started in April with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), later joined MQM and then MQM-London.

Amjadullah was PTI’s candidate for NA-245 by-polls but he withdrew in favour of MQM candidate Kamal Malik and also joined the party.

Later, when MQM’s Pakistan chapter─under Farooq Sattar- started dissociating itself from party chief Altaf Hussain and the London chapter announced its own faction of the party, Amjadullah left Sattar and joined Altaf-led party known as MQM-London.
