KARACHI: After reconciliation efforts between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for the National Assembly seat, NA-249, failed, the latter on Friday decided to field a candidate against former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, ARY News reported.

The nomination papers of the PML-N president from NA-250 (Karachi) have been withdrawn and he is now set to contest the election from Karachi’s constituency NA-249.

During his recent visit to the city, Shehbaz visited NA-249 constituency in a bid to woo constituents to vote for him and promised to develop the metropolis..

This should be noted that the areas which lie within NA-249 constituency are considered to be stronghold of the MQM. The Karachi-based political party won landslide election victory in the last two general elections from here.

Aslam Afridi, parliamentary leader in city council, is the candidate for the MQM, while, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Faisal Vawda and Pak Sarzameen Party’s Waseem Aftab will also vie in elections for NA-249.
