MQM-P interviews party hopefuls for deputy mayor slot

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has started its preparations for election of the Deputy Mayor Karachi with interviews from the hopeful party members, ARY News reported on Thursday.

An interview panel of the MQM-P, comprising of party leaders Faisal Sabzwari, Abdul Waseem and Shaikh Salahuddin, will shortlist the candidates for deputy mayor’s slot and forward the names to the Rabita Committee, party sources said.

MQM Rabita Committee will convene a session of the CEC to finalize the name of the party’s candidate for Karachi’s deputy mayor.

Aslam Afridi and Arshad Hassan are among the aspirants vying for the MQM-P ticket for the deputy mayor’s election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last week announced that the election of Deputy Mayor Karachi will be held on April 18.

The office was vacated due to disqualification of Arshad Vohra for switching party loyalty after being elected to his position.

According to the ECP schedule for the election the nomination papers of the candidates for the deputy mayor will be received till March 29 (tomorrow).

Over 302 members of Karachi’s City Council will use their right to vote to elect the new deputy mayor of the city.
