Mumbai Stampede: 18 killed during Syedna Burhanuddin’s last rites
MUMBAI: A stampede claimed the lives of 18 people and further injured 48 others during the last rites of Bohra community spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin at his residence at Saifee House in the early hours of Saturday, ARY News reports.
Thousands of Bohra community members had gathered to pay their last respects to their community leader.
The injured were rushed to Saifee Hospital and Cumballa Hill Hospital. People with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after first aid treatment.
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, 102, had passed away on Friday due to a cardiac attack here in Mumbai.
Police have not yet disclosed the reason of the stampede.
