Murad Ali Shah chairs meeting on unpaid electricity bills

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday chaired a high level meeting regarding payment of electricity bills to power distribution companies, ARY News reported.

Sindh’s Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh, Advisor to Chief Minister for Law, Chief Secretary Sindh and other top officials attended the meeting.

Chief Minister Shah ordered the officials to reconcile Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Rs580m unpaid electricity bills with the K-electric.

It is to mention here that the Supreme Court had ordered the Sindh government in April to help the KMC to pay its electricity bill of Rs580 million.

The chief minister directed that the outstanding bills should be paid in installments after proper verification and reconciliation.

He said power distribution companies collecting 1.5 percent electric duty from domestic consumers and two percent from commercial consumers for Sindh government through electricity bills.

He said that an amount of three billion rupees of the collected duty to be paid by the K-Electric every year, but the company not paying the amount.

He directed the energy minister to contact K-Electric, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) and get figures reconcile with them and also recover due amount of Sindh government’s electric duty from them.

Chief Minister Murad Shah also directed for devising a mechanism for depositing the electric duty in the account of Sindh government.
