KARACHI: A girl, who was travelling with 19-year-old Intizar Ahmed when he was shot dead allegedly by Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) personnel, has claimed in a statement that his murder was an act of targeted killing.

In a video statement, Madiha Kayani said she feared for her life and demanded that the Rangers personnel should provide her security.

She said she had already pointed out in a statement to investigators that a mustached man opened fire at Intizar.

Ms Kayani said the youth was murdered in targeted killing. She claimed the victim had told her that he was being chased by someone.

She named two people – Mahrukh and Suleman – who she said be made part of the investigation into the murder case.

She expressed doubts that some influential people might be behind the killing. There should be a fair probe into the incident, she demanded.

Intizar Ahmed was shot dead under mysterious circumstances by armed Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) personnel when he didn’t stop his car after being signaled by them in Khayaban-i-Bukhari of Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on January 13.

Eight ACLC officials have been arrested and sent to jail on judicial remand in the case while an accused has been out on bail.

A day earlier, the victim’s father, Ishtiaq Ahmed, along with his counsel appeared before a joint investigation team formed on the directions of the Sindh chief minister.

The JIT, headed by CTD chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi and comprising DIG South Azad Khan and other officials of both military and civilian agencies, was formed to address the reservations of Ahmed as he believed that his son’s killing was not accidental.
