Murtaza Wahab promises criminal investigation in Nishwa death case

KARACHI: Adviser to chief minister Sindh on information Murtaza Wahab on Monday assured initiating a criminal investigation and registration of a first information report in connection to death of nine-month-old Nishwa due to negligence of staff at Darul Sehat Hospital in Karachi.

In a statement, he said a healthcare commission team was formed on orders of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Wahab assured of criminal investigation and registration of a first information report.

He said an action will be taken against the hospital staff after report was released by the healthcare commission.

“If we didn’t take action today, we will have to face the consequences of similar negligences by doctors,” he stated.

He said the action was inevitable after completion of inquiry in the toddler’s death.

He recalled that a similar incident had occurred with his mother seven years ago and the hospital management had also not cooperated with them.

“We now have a chance to deal with such incidents to stop their recurrence once and for all.”

Earlier, police surgeon Dr Qarar Abbasi has said the post-mortem report of nine-month-old Nishwa, will be released in couple of weeks.

He informed that chemical analysis of all samples was conducted from Dow Medical University.

The police surgeon said he had sought all medical record of the deceased child from her parents. “The reports from Darul Sehat Hospital and Liaquat National Hospital have also been obtained,” he said.
