Ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will contest by-elections at National Assembly constituencies NA 122, NA 125 and NA 154 instead of challenging the decisions of election tribunals, party sources told ARY News.

However, it is an opinion within the PML-N ranks but the final decision will be made after return of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the foreign visit, sources said.

PTI candidate Jahangir Tareen had challenged the victory of Siddique Khan Baloch in the constituency who had won the election as an independent candidate by obtaining 86,177 votes in 2013 general elections. PTI’s runner up Jehangir Tareen had bagged 75,955 votes.

The PTI candidate’s petition had accused Baloch of having a fake degree and had also alleged that irregularities had been committed in the election.

The winning candidate later joined the PML-N who emerged victorious in general elections.

The election tribunal judge Rana Zahid Mehmood announced decision amid heavy contingents of police posted at the premises of the tribunal. The judge also declared PML-N’s Siddique Baloch disqualified for life for his fake degree.

Tareen had rejected the election result and filed an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan for recounting of votes. In the recounting Siddique Baloch declared winner.

Tareen filed a petition in the election tribunal alleging rigging in the election.

The judge had reserved the judgment in its hearing on August 22 and fixed August 26 (today) date for announcement of the verdict.
