In a news conference in Khurshid Begum Memorial Hall, RC member Qamar Mansoor claimed that rivals are leveling baseless allegations against MQM.

He said that the party is co-operating with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in this regard but still it is being accused of making fake polling stations and snatching people’s identity cards.

“Some people are wrongly thinking that they will eliminate MQM through negative propaganda, we tell them that such cheap tactics to steal people’s mandate will not succeed”

MQM leader alleged that polling stations are being reassigned while postings and transfers are being ordered in the constituency to favour rival candidates.

He maintained that no matter what the circumstances are MQM will not boycott the polls as it is the only party which is always ready for elections.

Mansoor alleged that rival parties are being facilitated while MQM voters are being harassed in the name of security arrangements.

On this occasion, MQM MPA Muhammad Hussain threw light upon what he called the ‘violation’ of ECP code of conduct.

Hussain claimed that multiple polling booths are being made in several polling stations fearing that if voting had been halted there, a number of voters will be deprived of their right to vote.

The NA-246 constituency of Karachi will witness a by-poll on April 23 as the seat fell vacant after Nabil Gabol, who was elected on the ticket of MQM in the 2013 general elections, resigned from his seat after developing differences with the party.

A number of candidates are participating in the election with the most notable being MQM’s Kunwar Naveed Jamil, PTI’s Imran Ismail and JI’s Rashid Nasim. The by-polls are due to be held on April 23, 2015 (today).
