NA adopts resolution to protect democracy

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly and Senate setting aside their scheduled agenda held debate over the prevailing political situation of the country, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The National Assembly adopted a resolution calling for protecting democracy in the country.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal tabled the resolution, which stated that democracy should be safeguarded in the country.

Earlier, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai warned that the federation would not survive if the Constitution and the Parliament were tampered with.

PkMAP Chief said that democracy and parliament have been achieved through long struggle and great sacrifices by the people.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab said that the democratic forces will foil all conspiracies against the democratic rule.

Jamat Islami MNA Sher Akbar also stressed that every government should complete its tenure.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)MNA Murad Saeed said holding of protests against alleged rigging was the democratic right of the people.

He warned that the federal government would be responsible if democracy will be derailed.

Islamabad braces for protest marches led by PTI chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri who have vowed to topple the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
