NAB arrests food department’s ex-deputy director over corruption charges

SUKKUR: National Accountability Bureau officials have reportedly detained on Wednesday former Food Department deputy director Rafiq Rajper on corruption charges, ARY News reported.

The sources in the NAB office have divulged to ARY News the former director from Larkana was arrested over embezzlement of wheat in the department on his watch.

Suspect Rafiq Rajper, food department’s erstwhile deputy director, who held the key post in the food department at the time when the commodity crisis hit the province, will be presented in Accountability Court tomorrow to seek remand, NAB sources said.

Earlier the same day, carrying out raids against wheat hoarding and embezzlement, the Sukkur chapter of accountability watchdog sealed at least two godowns over for being involved.

The two godowns to have been sealed by NAB authorities belong in Shahdadkot while the bureau has detained their records as well.

The Sindh government has started releasing the wheat quota to flour mills after setting up the government prices to Rs3,687.50 per 100 kilograms.

The provincial government issued a notification regarding the prices of wheat, however, it did not reduce the prices on which the mills are selling the flour to the consumers despite Rs100 per kilogram of flour set up by the government.

According to government officials, those flour mills cannot get wheat stocks from the government go-downs which made a plea bargain with the NAB.
