Nation observes Kashmir Solidarity Day

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing Kashmir Day today (Monday) to express solidarity and wholehearted support of the nation to just struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination under UN resolutions.

A one-minute silence was observed nationwide at 10am to pay homage to the supreme sacrifices rendered by Kashmiri people and their decades-long struggle for self-determination.

President Mamnoon Hussain is to address the main ceremony of the Kashmir Solidarity Day in Islamabad later today.

The leadership of Hurriyat Conference, prominent political and social figures as well as intellectuals are also expected to address the ceremony.

Public rallies, walks and seminars are being held in order to draw world attention towards the plight of oppressed Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile, a special sitting will be held today at the Aiwan-e-Karkunaan-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan, the Mall, Lahore to express solidarity with the struggle of the people of Indian-held Kashmir.

People of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are also observing Kashmir Solidarity Day with the renewed pledge to seek a solution to the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people

Peace in region to remain elusive without resolving Kashmir dispute 

In their separate messages on this day, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have said the dream of peace and prosperity in the region will remain elusive without resolving decades-old Kashmir dispute.

They called upon the international community to urge India to respect the Human Rights Charter, put an immediate end to gross human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir.
