Nationwide security high alert on Chehlum

KARACHI: The security has been tightened nationwide ahead of Chehlum of Imam Hussain (R.A) in order to curb any unforeseen incident on the occasion, ARY News reports.

Strict security arrangements are being made for the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (R.A) and the martyrs of Karbala (R.A). The security has been stepped up around the main mosques and imambargahs. The law enforcement agencies will be on high alert and 3000 police officers will be deployed for security on Chehlum.

On the occasion, Sindh Government has decided to impose a ban on pillion riding in six main cities of Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Home Secretary of Sindh. A letter will be sent to the Defense Ministry to suspend mobile phone services and to keep the military on standby in the province.

 In Punjab, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Chaudhry Shafeeq stated that arrangements for Chehlum, Urs of Hazrat Data Ganjh Bakhsh (R.A) and Christmas have been completed and a ban on pillion riding will be imposed whereas the decision to suspend mobile phone services will be made a day ahead of Chehlum.

The arrangements, made for Chehlum and Christmas, were reviewed during a meeting of the Divisional Intelligence Committee in Faisalabad.
