Naval Chief emphasizes on strengthening maritime sector to boost economy

KARACHI: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aimed at creating synergy between the local business community and the maritime sector to boost to country’s economy.

While addressing the representatives of business community, the naval chief emphasized the need to kick start economic activities in maritime sector which is one of the pillars of his vision.

He further added that through mutual cooperation and joint efforts, the maritime economy of the country can be boosted and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth can be tripled.

“We should jointly serve the national cause of developing country’s maritime sector and make collective efforts for progress and prosperity of the country,” he said.

President KCCI Mufassir Atta Malik lauded the role and efforts of Pakistan Navy in making sea communication safe for trade. He also acknowledged that this is the first ever visit by a naval chief to the trade association.

Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Operational Plans) also briefed the members of KCCI regarding the role and functions of Pakistan Navy and its potential and opportunities to develop national economy through maritime sector.

Earlier, the naval chief visited newly inducted maritime patrol vessel PMSS Dasht.  He was briefed about the functions and capabilities of the ship.

The admiral also visited Headquarters Pakistan Maritime Security Agency where he was presented guard of honour . During the visit, Admiral Abbasi was briefed on the role, functions and future plans of the PMSA.
