ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, appeared before the accountability court today (Wednesday) in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case and Flagship Investment Reference, ARY News reported.

The court had given a questionnaire comprising 140 questions to Mr. Sharif in the Flagship case. The former PM submitted 136 answers to the court.

His counsel, Khawaja Haris, informed the court that he would submit answers to four questions after making some corrections in it tomorrow.

Accountability court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik said Mr. Sharif should have asked from his children about their properties abroad.

Haris responded that the former PM’s children were adults, hence he couldn’t pressurize them.

Nawaz Sharif had skipped the accountability court hearing yesterday after he had shown up before the Supreme Court in Pakpattan shrine land case earlier in the day.

On Nov 29, the court had directed the counsel of NAB to present final arguments in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference against Sharif. The accountability court had also given a questionnaire to the former PM under section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, to seek his answers. NAB prosecutor, Wasiq Malik, during his arguments, said the accused persons were given ample chance before the JIT, Supreme Court and the NAB to defend the charges, but their proofs turned out to be false, he claimed.

The court had given over 120 questions to Mr Sharif in the Avenfield properties reference and 151 in the Al-Azizia reference.

The Supreme Court on November 19 gave three weeks to the accountability court to wrap up graft references against Nawaz Sharif.
