ISLAMABAD/LONDON: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Raja Qamarul Islam for an inquiry pertaining to Saaf Pani Company scam, ARY News reported.

Qamarul Islam was set to contest polls against estranged party leader Chaudhry Nisar from NA-59 Rawalpindi and PP-10.

Raja got record number of votes in Punjab during 2013 election on the provincial assembly seat from the same area.

Along with Qamarul Islam, the anti-graft authority also arrested former secretary P&D Punjab Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry in the case. Chaudhry had also served as chief executive officer (CEO) of Saaf Pani Company in the past.

PML-N’s lifelong leader Nawaz Sharif, who is in London, expressed sorrow over Qamarul Islam’s arrest and said that his party is getting more information to tackle the issue.

“This is sad… however, we are getting more information and will see what we can do,” Nawaz told reporters outside a London hospital where he is attending his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz.
