ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Latif has decried dual standards of justice and even questioned why accountability of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was being held.

Speaking during ARY News show ‘Off the Record’ on Thursday, Latif said he couldn’t understand what revenge was being taken from Nawaz Sharif, and why the former premier was being singled out and  held accountable.

“I cannot understand what revenge is being sought from Nawaz Sharif. It is being said that he is being treated as any ordinary convict by the courts.

“However, no one except Nawaz Sharif is being held accountable among the 455 people named in the Panamaleaks,” he said.

He said the trial of Nawaz Sharif was being held since the last two years which was enough, and even their objection to a member in the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was not addressed.

He said that Islamabad High Court gave its verdict to release the Sharifs based on the judgement of the accountability court, and now questions are being raised why Nawaz Sharif was ousted from power.

“People were previously debating why Nawaz Sharif was ousted. Now after the high court’s verdict it is still being debated why this happened,” he added.

He said that accountability should start from the top, but asked why senior government leaders such as Aleem Khan, Pervez Khattak, and others were not been held accountable.

“Till when will Nawaz Sharif be held accountable. How long will this continue?” he asked.

He said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is seen as a independent institution but it is otherwise and is reflected in the soft corner for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

“I think NAB is an independent organisation but it is not so. It’s attitude towards Zardari is in front of us,” he said. “Is the Sharif family the only one to have been in power ever.”
