Nawaz Sharif, Maryam meet family members in Adiala prison

RAWALPINDI: Former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz met their family members in Rawalpindi’s Adiala prison where they are serving jail time following a July 6 court verdict in Avenfield case, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, Nawaz Sharif’s mother Shamim Akhter, his brother Shehbaz Sharif, nephew Hamza Shehbaz and other family members met the duo in Adiala prison.

The meeting took place in the room of jail superintendent amid tight security.

The duo’s legal team also met the former PM to attain the power of attorney so that an appeal could be filed in the Islamabad High Court against accountability court’s verdict.

Nawaz Sharif, who is being kept in cell number 11, has been allotted ‘B’ class category in the prison while Maryam Nawaz reportedly she declined to request for provision of ‘B’ class facilities to her in jail.

Prisoner Numbers Allotted

Both Maryam Nawaz and Mian Nawaz Sharif have been allotted temporary prisoner numbers.

Nawaz Sharif has been allotted 3421 and Maryam Nawaz is prisoner number 3422.

The father-daughter duo, who were in London till Thursday, were arrested soon after their flight landed in Lahore on Friday and were moved to Adiala prison in compliance with court orders.

An accountability court on July 6, handed Nawaz Sharif 10 years as jail time for owning assets beyond income and 1 year for not cooperating with NAB in the Avenfield properties corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

His daughter Maryam Nawaz was given 7 years for abetment, and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar was given 1 year for non-cooperation with the anti-graft authority.
