Nawaz Sharif reaches Colombo for three-day visit

COLOMBO: Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has reached Colombo on Thursday to represent Pakistan in the three-day Commonwealth Summit, scheduled to commence by tomorrow, ARY News reported.

Besides attending the Commonwealth Summit, PM Nawaz Sharif will meet his Sri Lankan‚ Australian and New Zealand’s counterparts and other leaders to promote bilateral relations.

He will be meeting the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening.

On his arrival Nawaz Sharif had received the warm welcome at the Bandaranaike international airport by the leader of House in the Sri Lankan Parliament Nimal Siripala de Silva and was also presented a bouquet by children clad in traditional Sri Lankan dress.

The Prime Minister said being a democratic and a responsible member of the global community‚ Pakistan subscribes to the work of the Commonwealth through sustainable economic and social development and poverty alleviation.

The 23rd Commonwealth Summit will be conducted from November 15 to November 17 in Colombo.
The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Growth with Equity’-Inclusive Development’.

Pakistan is one of the eight founding members of the Commonwealth among eight others.
