ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif says a conspiracy is being hatched not against him, but against the progress of the country.

He made these remarks while speaking to a gathering of the party leaders and workers at Punjab House in the federal capital after his appearance before an accountability court in hearing of a graft reference.

Sources said Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz as well as PML-N leaders, including Amir Muqam, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asif Kirmani, Hanif Abbasi, and Mussadiq Malik, were present at the meeting.

The matters related to party’s campaign for the upcoming general elections and its recent public rallies came under discussion during the meeting.

The party leaders expressed happiness over the party’s “successful” public rallies in the country.

Sharif said the people’s court has rejected his disqualification. He reaffirmed his resolve to contest corruption charges against him and members of his family.

He said only time will prove he was being subjected to a revengeful accountability.

That was a conspiracy against the progress of the country, not against him, the former premier claimed.

He said he had always served the country in letter and spirit and will continue his service in the days to come.
