Nehal Hashmi claims PTI distorted his speech

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Senator Nehal Hashmi said that his speech was twisted and uploaded to social media by design to malign his and the party name, ARY News reported on Monday.

He was talking to newsmen out the Supreme Court here after a hearing session on contempt of court.

“The 14-minutes speech was of a patriotic Pakistani”, said Hashmi while claiming that only a few seconds’ segment was cut out of it with a malicious intention.

He alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) distorted  his speech and the PTI chief was the one who committed contempt rather than him. “My reply to the court will prove this”, he asserted.

Earlier, he appeared before a three-judge bench – headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan – of the apex court where he apprised the bench that he could not submit his reply as he did not have a transcript of his speech. Hashmi also sought permission of bench to play the entire video.

However, Justice Ijaz Azfal Khan did not permit him to play it.

He lamented that no lawyer was willing to take his case and requested time for submission a reply till Eid-ul-Fatr from the bench.

Rejecting his request, the bench ruled that Hashmi was taking the matter lightly, despite the matter was of serious-level.

It is worth mentioning here that a case against the former PML-N senator Nehal Hashmi for making a threatening speech against the judiciary and members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case.
